I've been sightseeing in Ottawa today, and I doubt if I will ever be truly warm again. Mind you, Quebec was even worse... Quebec is the other side of the St Lawrence river, a 10 minute walk from my hotel, and 5 degrees colder.

The town on the Quebec side of the river is called Gatineau, or Hull in English (really H-u-l-l). And just like it's namesake back home, it was cold, bleak, and thoroughly uninviting. So, well named if nothing else.

Bizarrely, there is also a micro-climate within Ottawa. For some reason the street outside the American Embassy is decidedly more chilly than the rest of town. It's also slap bang between the Canadian Parliament and the city, not that they are trying to make a point at all you understand.
