I just read an article by Peter Tatchell on Cornish devolution. Yes, that's right, Cornish devolution
(source http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/nov/10/cornwall ).

I despair of this sort of petty provincial nationalism; it will be the Kindom of Little Blighty on the Downs next. Yes, Britain has distinct regional identities that we should celebrate, and we have a number of minority languages that should be respected, but breaking the Union into smaller and smaller entities is just barmy. In a world of big business, the smaller the state, the less power the individual has over their own affairs.

Actually I'd go as far as to say the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly are also a nonsense on such a small island. I shudder to think what it will be like if we have England, Scotland, and Wales hanging onto the tailcoats of Russian billionaires and Chinese/Arab dictators, competing for inward investment no-holds-barred.

Government and democracy needs to be bigger than business, otherwise we will be owned by it, little people down on our knees before Mamon.
