I just watched a BBC World News package on the Australian housing market. They were talking about how the average price of an Australian house is so high, people are having difficulty buying a house, or finding affordable rented accommodation. The bottom of the pile is "last resort housing", often a caravan. The BBC interviewed a mother of 3, whose children have been taken into care at least partly because she is now stuck in a small caravan.
Allowing for the fact that there may be other circumstances involved, what kind of government punishes children for having poor parents? It's outrageous, and it's like stepping back into 1966 and "Cathy Come Home" (ref: http://www.museum.tv/archives/etv/C/htmlC/cathycomeho/cathycomeho.htm ).
Sorry, not outrageous, utterly outrageous and shameful. What the hell is wrong with Australian society that they could even conceive of doing this?
