It's fun to compare the Canadian federal election here with the US (and UK) ones. There are more parties here, led by dysfunctional people who should have their own sitcoms on the Comedy Channel.

We have the leader of the Tories who behaves (and to some extent looks) like the doctor in "Only When I Laugh".

There is the leader of the New Democrats who thinks he's Nero, though ironically it's the Tory PM that's fiddling while Canada burns. He was asked what he would do in his first 30 days if re-elected, and the answer was: nothing.

The leader of the Liberals is the most fun. He's from Quebec and he's an archetypal French Canadian with an accent so bad he must be putting it on. Peter Sellers was far more convincing as Inspector Clouseau. I'm not sure I'd vote for him, but I watch his performances avidly.

The only sane one of the bunch is the leader of the Greens, but it's hard to take someone seriously when they look and dress like Barbara from Scooby Doo.

I'm pleased I don't have to choose.
