I was watching a debate in the Ontario Parliament earlier. They were debating a bill to give responsibility for processing the applications of foreign and out-of-province doctors and nurses to the universities.
As far as I can tell, there is a shortage of medical staff in the province, and a queue of foreign doctors and nurses already here, stuck in low paid unskilled jobs waiting for their applications to proceed/additional training. One member of Parliament suggested that the easiest was to find a doctor in Ontario was to dial Dominoes for a pizza.
The government's solution, as far as I can make out, is to pass the blame to the universities, but without actually providing the appropriate funding and resources to resolve the problem. So it's a terrible shame, but not their problem any more.
With politics like this, I could be at home in the UK. The more I travel, the more things stay the same.
